In 2013 I had a vision for a boutique curated with handmade goods created by artisans from around the globe. On a trip to Cuba in 2014 I purchased the first handmade items for my future store and held onto them for 8 years.
In March 2022, while traveling in Florida with my parents, I stumbled upon a purse that was so unique that I could not leave the shop without it. I did not think that I would wear it myself, but I knew someone should have it. And in that moment my idea for a store expanded to include my love of vintage. Over the next 8 months I gathered a small , yet powerful collection of vintage objects and garments.
During these first few months of collecting, I started to inquire about a shop that my maternal grandmother Victoria had opened in the 1970's in Detroit, MI. Little did I know, until my mom found the article at right, how closely I am following in her footsteps. 'The original Victoria Trading Company' specialized in 'furs, imports, and unusual trappings' and not only did I inherit her exquisite taste for beautiful antiques, but also her love of supporting talented artisans.
'Victoria Trading Company', now domiciled in New Orleans, LA, is a private vintage studio and growing online boutique with a focus on in-person pop-ups. Each item in our collection has been hand-selected with immense care. I give thanks for Grandmother Victoria's indelible taste, her love for the arts and her bravery in starting the company that I now have the honor of stewarding.
